Artist's Statement

Nadeen El-Kassem is an artist educator based in the city of Toronto. Her primary focus is jewellery design and production of custom and one of a kind pieces. She works primarily with silver and has an interest in expanding into gemmology. Her current practice includes metal fabrication and lost wax casting.

Recently she has found herself back in the classroom both as a jewellery making instructor in the Toronto Public Library System and as an elementary school teacher who bases her pedagogy in art-based learning.

Her work is inspired by her ethnocultural backgrounds in the Middle East and South Asia as is evidenced in her work. There is also a distinctively urban flavour running through her work grounded in her experiences growing up and living in the city of Toronto. She is also inspired by the children she teaches, the strong women in her life, and her two children.
